Manju Manowara was born to a peasant family. Her family consists of her parents, two elder sisters, elder brother and sister-in-law. Her elder sisters are married. Her elder brother has always supported her by paying her school fees. But when she qualified for the National Aptitude Test for Architecture, it was hard for her family to bear the expenses. They sanctioned Rs. 40,000 yearly for her three years B. Architecture course. Previously, Manju has passed Diploma in Architecture. Now, with this loan she can complete her graduation in B. Architecture.Manju wants to start her own consultancy firm, because opportunity in construction business is growing. However, chances of getting a job in this field is less. Hence, she took admission in the B. Architect, so that she could acquire knowledge in this subject. She is currently studying architecture at Rani Rashmani School of Architecture.She wishes to help people of Baharpur village by making better residential houses. She knows that in her field, jobs are limited. Hence she want to open her own consultancy firm. Manju admits, unless WBMDFC gave her this loan, she would never be able to fulfil her dream.
Yeamin Hoque
Yeamin Hoque belongs to a peasant family, whose family’s annual income is Rs. 50,000 to Rs. 60,000. There are four members in his family. Although they do not belong to below pverty level, yet providing higher education to Yeamin is tough for Yeamin’s father. Although he himself is not an educated person, his dream was to make his son higher educated. Hence, he whole heartedly supported his son, through Higher Secondary and Joint Entrance Exam. Meritorious Yamin qualified the Joint Entrance Exam. His father admitted him to an Engineering College with all his savings. In college, Yamin came to know about WBMDFC Education loan and at once applied for it. He obtained Rs. 1,20,000 which served his purpose a lot, easing the expenses for his education in engineering. Yeamin is grateful that he can continue his education with the help of the education loan obtained from West Bengal Minority Development and Finance Corporation.
Nurafsana’s story is an exceptional one. Although she too comes from a humble family, both parents of NurafsanaKhatoon are educated. Her father NurulAlamMolla is a graduate while her mother passed Madhyamik. People of their village are literate. Most of them took the help of WBMDFC for their higher studies. Nurafsana’s father NurulAlam, though a graduate, is a farmer by profession. Annual income of their family is only Rs. 60,000. Yet, meritorious Nurafsana’s bright career is the family’s future hope. Nurafsana, had qualified for the Joint Entrance Exam and got admitted to JIS College of Engineering, to study Information Technology and Communication. According to her as people of her village take help of WBMDFC Education Loan for higher studies on a regular basis, she was familiar with the function of WBMDFC. She also received a pre-matric scholarship from WBMDFC, which encouraged her to believe that she too can obtain a loan from them. Being qualified in the Joint Entrance Exam she applied for the loan and obtained an amount of Rs. 1,20,000. She is grateful to her family and WBMDFC for letting her continue her higher studies.
Zeeshan Murshid is the eldest son of Murshid Anwar. They belong to a lower middle class family whose annual income does not exceed Rs. 96,000. Jishan has three brothers and two sisters, who are also studying in schools. Once, it seemed that Zeeshan would have to leave his engineering studies due to economic constraints. Jishan passed Joint Entrance Exam in the same year he passed Higher Secondary Exam and got admission in MCKV College of Liluah. After first semester, he got to know from a senior student of his college that WBMDFC gives education loan to students like him. He applied and obtained Rs. 1,20,000 when he was in second year. Jishan clearly admits that “if WBMDFC had not given me the loan, my dream would never have been fulfilled.” Zeeshan wants to do Government service in future.
